This relationship is critical in merging the pure Maori thinking that Te Whanau Poutirirangiora a Papa offers with its wide Iwi representation, together with the role Poutiri Trust has in dealing with the government in the areas of funding and negotiation. These complementary roles strengthen the Maori voice on Hauora issues for the Bay of Plenty region

Bay of Plenty District Health Board

The Bay of Plenty District Health Board is a major source of funding for contracts held with Poutiri Trust. Both Poutiri Trust and Bay of Plenty District Health Board have made a commitment to meet at least quarterly at both management and Board level to align strategies and maintain the relationship. Within the Bay of Plenty District Health Board is the Maori Health Runanga, which is made up of 18 Mandated Iwi representatives who meet monthly to discuss health issues that pertain to Iwi in the Bay of Plenty.

Lakes District Health Board

The relationship between Lakes District Health Board and Poutiri Trust is maintained through contracts of its two Southern providers.

Lakes District Health Board has a formal relationship with the two Iwi of the Lakes district, Ngati Tuwharetoa and Te Arawa. This relationship comes in the form of a 'Principles of Operation and Understanding Agreement' which was signed by Te Nohanga Kotahitanga o Tuwharetoa on the 27th May 2006 and by Te Roopu Hauora o Te Arawa on the 9th June 2006.

Ministry of Health

Poutiri Trust's communication with the Ministry of Health is primarily via our relationship with the Maori Health Directorate, Te Kete Hauora. There are also operational relationships with the Ministry in relation to a small Disability Support Services contract.

HealthPac - Health payments, Agreements and Compliance is a unit of the Ministry of Health which services payment and administration of all agreements made by the Ministry of Health and District Health Boards.

Te Matarau Ltd - National Maori Development Organisation

This national forum of six Maori Development Organisations remains an important collective in maintaining Maori Health as a high priority on the government's agenda. It is also a key information sharing forum and a means of keeping abreast of the ever changing health sector.
