POUTIRI TRUST – CEO UPDATE JUNE 2010

Kia ora koutou katoa

We have reached half way through the year 2010 and before we know it, it’s Xmas & New Year. Current updates as follows:

1. Whanau Ora EOI – 1st Wave due 7 July 2010

I sent out an email Monday 28 June 2010 that we had made the decision to apply in the 1st Wave – close date 7 July 2010. We requested that if you did not wish to be actively involved we would still like your support in principle. For the Poutiri network providers who have not yet emailed back confirmation of support – we would appreciate your consideration and confirm or not confirm your support for the Poutiri Trust Whanau Ora EOI.

2. Provider Forums Completed

Managers Quality Forum – 30 June 2010

The aim of the hui was for the network providers share their knowledge on quality, input into the Quality Manual that covers the network for BVNZ ISO Certification. To discuss the Quality Improvement Programme (QIPs) (that featured in the HealthShare Audits) and internal audits, and internal audit training.

Actions are: draft up the Quality Manual, and arrange for Internal Audit Training for July or August.

We are requesting all providers in the network to confirm that they wish to continue to be part of the BVNZ ISO Certification and for those providers not at the Quality forum we will ensure you receive the confirmation memo. We will have a new Audit Plan for the next three years starting November 2010.

And we had a lovely lunch – not the healthy lunch option we usually have either.

3. Future Forums

Our apologies once again as we have pushed out some of our training dates due to getting a bit of a bottle neck with lots of training scheduled around the same time. Schedule of training forums for the next three months are as follows.

a. July 2010 Internal Auditing Training – date tbc

b. August 2010 - The Leadership Forum – date tbc

Topic: Project Management – Tania Hodges

c. October/November - IT training – date tbc

IT training to be determined by the needs of the providers

4. Mental Health Providers

PRIMHD stands for Programme for the Integration of Mental Health Data and it’s a contractual requirement to be in place by the end of 2010. The latest update on PRIMHD compliance is only 3% of all Mental Health providers – 284. We are still waiting for Vivienne Martin, Midland PRIMHD Regional Coordinator for her recommendations on what system is best for Poutiri and its network providers. Work in progress.

For the Mental Health Providers who take up the BVNZ ISO Certification, it’s my understanding that they can be audited for the Health & Disability Sector Standards at the same time and we can negotiate that with BVNZ.

5. Maori Mobile Assessor Contract - National Certificate in Community Support Services NZQA L2

We had the first report from Disability Resource Centre based in Whakatane. Four site visits have been completed. Individual learning plans completed for 13 trainees with a further 12 to be completed. A further two site visits planed. We are back on track for this project.

6. Service Innovation Contract – Actualising Whanau Potential

This is the new contract for the mobile clinical nurse to work with the network Providers. It’s a three year contract and it focuses on four key areas: to increase early clinical access to services, to improve access to specialist care, workforce development, and Actualising Whanau Potential through Maori whanau supported through culturally appropriate wrap around services to achieve maximum health & well being.

We have engaged a project manager to do the project plan, business plan and communications plan. We have advertised for the clinical nurse position. The contract is on track for the deliverables and timeframes.

7. Quarter Four Reporting Packs for 2009/10 Year

This is your last monitoring report for the 2009/10 year. It was sent out on 30 June 2010 and your report is due to us 10 July 2010. If you are having any issues with your report, please do not hesitate to contact your designated contract coordinator.

We have seen a marked improvement in the narrative reporting from all the network reports – well done and keep it up.

8. Te Whare O Poutiri (no change from last April & May update)

There has been debate for many years within Poutiri and their stakeholders about the relevance of Te Whare o Poutiri. The board recently undertook a project in which they were able to reframe the vision, the mission and the underlying philosophies of why we exist as an organisation into a working framework of Te Whare o Poutiri.

The board have consulted with Poutiri staff, kaumatua and cultural consultants and are now ready to share the outcomes to date with our Poutiri provider network. Poutiri Board intend to hold two regional hui (West/East) with the purpose of getting further dialogue and input from those communities (board & managers).

Dates for the hui are yet to be determined but they will be held before June 2010. Julie the Board Secretary is following up with individual hauora to confirm attendances.

9. Personal Note: I have been to a few more movies. I saw “Get to the Greek” a comedy and easy to watch and funny. I went to see “Shrek 3” in 3D at the Te Puke theatre and it was entertaining – thought it was as good as Shrek One. The weathers turning now, it’s a lot colder and we have had a lot of rain over the last two weeks, so it’s keep warm time, staying at home and reading or watching TV or movies. We have been keeping in touch with the whanau in Rotorua with usual cuppa tea visits. That’s me for this month. Take care.

Na Kathy
