Mental Health and Addiction Services

These Poutiri providers are providing assessment, treatment, consultation and support for clients and whanau with mental health and/or alcohol and drug problems, within a kaupapa Māori framework.

Fact: In 2008 one in four Māori drinkers consumed more than recommended guidelines at least weekly. Māori women were nearly twice as likely, and Māori men 1.5 times as likely, to have a potentially hazardous alcohol drinking pattern, compared to those in the total population. (Ministry of Health)

Fact:  Between 2004 and 2006, suicide was the second major cause of premature death in Māori men. (Ministry of Health)
