The Board of Trustees provides exceptional standards of governance and management, setting our direction, establishing our strategy and goals, and protecting our rights and interests. Poutiri Trustees are appointed by Poutiri Trust and its affiliated provider network.
George Skudder Tapuika Chairman George was appointed as a Trustee to the Poutiri Trust Board in 2004. He was later elected as the deputy chairperson in December 2005. In November 2009 he became the Chair. He comes with extensive experience in education, governance and strategic planning. George is involved in a number of local organisations.
Tamati Mangu Clarke Kaumatua/Cultural Advisor
Tamati was appointed the cultural advisor in October 2007. He is a trustee and advisor for a number of national organisations.
Nan Huritu Tūhoe, Ngāti Wahiao/Tūhourangi Kaumatua/Cultural Advisor
Nan was initially appointed to the Poutiri Trust Board as cultural advisor. In addition to this role he was elected an interim trustee. Nan has been involved in Māori mental health for many years.
Annette McLellan Whakatohea, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Porou Trustee
Annette was elected to represent the Eastern Bay of Plenty on the Board in the 2010 election. She has vast experience in the banking and auditing industry, as well as governance and management experience. Annette is also involved in the Opotiki Maori Women’s Welfare League at executive level, she has strong community ties with a variety of organisations locally and she is a Justice of the Peace.
Joe Doherty Tūhoe Trustee
Joe was elected to this position in November 2009. He has business and local tourism interests in the Bay of Plenty, and has had extensive experience in HR, bicultural development and central government.
Gillian Palmer Tainui Interim Deputy Chairwoman Gillian represents the Western Bay of Plenty. She has had a long time passion for health and brings a wealth of grass roots knowledge to the Poutiri Trust Board.
Parehuia Aratema Ngāti Pikiao, Ngai Taiwhakaea Trustee
Parehuia represents the Southern Bay of Plenty and was elected to this position in November 2009. Parehuia has had a long time passion for education.She brings a wealth of management and governance expertise to the Poutiri Trust Board.
Dr. Candy Cookson-Cox Te Arawa/Ngai Tahu Independent Trustee
Dr Candy Cookson Cox has been involved in the health and education sector for over thirty years. Candy was appointed to the Poutiri Trust Board in June 2009.
