The 2011 Poutiri Provider Awards were presented in the Pohutu Theatre, in the Holiday Inn on 5 November, in Rotorua. MC Russell Harrison hosted an unforgettable event on behalf of Poutiri Trust, carrying the audience through the presentation of certificates to all affiliated health organisations and then onto the special awards.
Guest speakers this year were Rev. Tom Poata and Te Ururoa Flavell. Rev. Tom Poata has officiated at funerals of national figures - Sir Howard Morrison and Sir Paul Reeves. Alongside national celebrities, he has entertained us in some great televised debates, and he has made the weddings of many local whanau totally memorable.
Te Ururoa Flavell has been a member of Parliament for Waiariki since 2005. Prior to being an MP, Te Ururoa worked in education circles for most of his life. He has filled leadership positions at all levels of the education sector in teaching, governance and management, and has been a teacher, principal, CEO of Whare Wananga, and an education consultant.
